Hudson Tylor Harrika is a songwriter, guitarist, and front of house engineer based in Decatur, AL. Tylor holds a BA in music from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and more than thirteen years of performing experience in the region. In that time, he has had work as a guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, ukelist, vocalist, and audio engineer in houses of worship, theatre  productions, collegiate choirs, local ensembles (Back Beat, T^3, Rocket City Rhythm, In The Mood), and more.

Tylor’s creative output serves various cultures and purposes. His most recently released works include both a compositional EP and a lyrical concept album in 2021.  The former, entitled Kadisha Valley is an exploration of the mountain landscapes of Lebanon, inspired by his own heritage and cultural identity. The latter Vanthems: Vol.2 is a catchy, thoughtful concept album — layered with a multitude of vocals and stringed instruments — that chronicles the Sunday routine of a big Athens family (his in-laws). Tylor’s primary vessel of himself is found in his songwriting, where he tweaks and tinkers to find the most potent expression of his experiences. A clear communicator and gentle friend, Tylor presents his perspectives and relational insights in an efficient and compelling package — carried on melodic guitar playing and earnest vocals. These are demonstrated by his 2021 single Open Mind, which retroactively addresses the tragic tension between doing one’s best and causing others pain.

On the matter of teaching experience, Tylor has taught private music lessons to more than fifty students, ranging from twelve to sixty years of age and covering various skill levels and instruments since 2013. In 2019, he formed, programmed, and rehearsed an ensemble of classical guitarists for a collegiate performance at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and has attended lectures by the critically acclaimed Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and folk duo The Milk Carton Kids. His mentors have included longtime instructor and retired Navy guitarist Patrick Bryant, Florence-based national flatpicking guitar champion Dillon Hodges, and international operatic soprano Amalia Osuga.

Tylor is thrilled to have rising opportunities in Alabama and beyond as he works to build out his career in music. He is grateful for every moment of humanhood and shared love along the way.

His projects are available to stream on all platforms, and you can keep up with him on Facebook, Instagram, or on this website!
